Experiencing Joy

When you experience joy in your life, what else do you really need?

When I was in the fourth grade I learned math from a thick grey book.  The thin red answer book lay on the corner of my teacher’s desk.  Life was simple then – one book of problems, one of answers.  Today I sometimes don’t know if I’m even asking the right questions.

In my blog, I’m going to help you to take a shortcut through that trial-and-error process.  I’ll give you an answer book that uses every one of my seventy-three years of experience to which you can add your own life skills.  If experience is the best teacher, why not use my experience as well as your own?

Why should you listen to me?  Forget about my degrees in accounting, law, education, and professional writing.  Forget about my accumulation of more than a billion dollars of real estate for myself and my investors.  Those are all useless if not well used, and I use every bit of my education and experience every day in every situation.  I grew up a geek, but taught myself to have a better approach with people.  That transformation was not quick or easy.  I wish had the benefit much earlier of what I know now.

I’ve been there — married three times, divorced twice.  I’ve been sued for palimony, and now, years later, we are dear friends.  I’ve helped to raise eight grown children, and all of us are close.  My wife is a good friend.  I own many terrific “toys”, several homes, and a solid investment portfolio.

I like to be efficient and will not waste your time.  If you have questions, let me know.  I’ll try to help.

I hope you’ll join me regularly on my blog as I discuss the many People Tools that can be used to solve the problems, both big and small, that impact all of us.  In my next blog post, I’ll explore a puzzle which we face every day – how to find joy in a relationship when the other person (such as your spouse or boss) simply will not cooperate.  Why not take on a tough question first?

As I said at the beginning – when you experience joy in your life, what else do you really need?

Let’s turn on the joy.

Alan

Wow- stunning start woven together in a tapestry that moves and touches me.  I am listening.   Question:  Why is doing sometimes so hard? Love, b

Alan,  I just happened to start reading your book! I have never been a big reader and picked this up from a friend who thought I could learn a few things... Apprehensively I started reading, and now I'm glued to the pages. Having gone through a divorce in the last couple of years and also the dismal commercial real estate market, this is just what I needed! Over my career I've done a couple of deals with Pac-cap and GDA, where your name has come up. I had no idea who you were, but I have to say thanks for sharing. Mark
