The Gift of Yourself
Tonight is Christmas Eve and most of us are shopping, anticipating, or trying to complete whatever before year end. Here I am at my dining room table writing a blog. For your sake, and mine, I’ll make it short.
I have an idea for a single gift that will cost you nothing, is already gift wrapped, and will bring joy to you and to hundreds of others for the eight remaining days this year, and the 365 days available in 2014.
Give the gift of yourself.
To be more specific:
1. Arrange to spend “Quality Time” with those you love. Your cell phone may bite you in strange places, and you may receive a plea from Facebook to return, but sharing your thoughts and feelings in person with those you care for, and listening to them in turn, is one of the most rewarding activities I can imagine. That’s what I’ve been doing today, which is why I didn’t get to writing my blog entry until 5:15 pm.
2. Write an e-mail of appreciation to a friend, business associate, or family member at least once a week. Postage is cheap and delivery is timely.
3. Deliver a hug, gift wrapped as you, to everyone you meet. A hug is even cheaper than e-mail and lot more fun. Daveen and I enjoyed lunch with Nancy today, and she taught us heart to heart hugging. The three of us practiced a lot.
4. Think about three activities which you would like to do for yourself, write them down, and do them. Why limit your gift giving to others.
That’s it. Better to actually act on four ideas than to have your mind glaze over with a list of forty.
For a Christmas bonus for you and your family, take a peek at me and Daveen as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Watch to the end. It’s funny. Daveen laughs every time.
